General CLAMP Discussion / Re: Legend of Chun Hyang
« on: February 14, 2009, 01:37:13 AM »
The wiki article, at least, says that Chun Hyang was dropped, not put in hiatus.

Chun Hyang seems to be considered josei, not shoujo. It ran in Hakusensha's Serie Mystery - Special magazine.
it's not dropped but it was the least of concern,in fact chun hyang is a "in progress work",i said chun hyang can be published on hana to yume because it's less mature than angel sanctuary which runs on hana to yume.

I think one of the things that prevent CLAMP in serializing Chun Hyang again is that the most suitable magazine in the company where would the manga would likely be reserialized, hana to yume is an ultra-female magazine not just shoujo and putting CLAMP's work, since there are many male fans of CLAMP it will change the readership of the magazine.

And side note-- wait a minute. 80 pages a month? I don't believe that CLAMP can handle that.
perhaps clamp is already doing a part of it now but not publishing it.

Personally, I don't consider protecting one's copyrights greedy.

It's very understandable for an author to want to have control over their work, which represents them. Not everyone that infringes copyrights does it to support an author. If they didn't protect it, there are plenty of people out there who would love to make money off of Harry Potter or dirty the Harry Potter name (there are many who do it anyway) and same goes for any other creator. I'm glad the distribution of Harry Potter is controlled and regulated.

CLAMP only makes warnings, they themselves have never made an effort to protect their copyrights. And they should, because they are very frequently plagiarized.
that is why the author should treat it's fans fairly since the fans can monitor if some abuse happens to their works, they should not upset the fans in anyway,i am only not against piracy if it's free because not everyone who likes the product can buy the original or have access to it, as long as they buy the original product when they can buy,i think money should not be the only reason why you are creating something.

I think CLAMP does not treat their fans fairly but they have beautiful art what a bad thing.

How so?

their statement in the information section of clamp-net proves that they are not that good in treating their fans and are quite strict on copyrights other authors don't go far as that because it might hurt their fans, other than gainax.

they become quite greedy after they became popular.

can you please PM me the names of the characters of cluster.

i can be the editor for cluster.

... I don't know the names of the characters in Cluster any more than you do, and I'm still not quite convinced about picking up this project either, since I don't really care for Akiyama Tamayo. Moreover...

Its one thing to say one is going to be the editor for Cluster, and quite another thing to do it. At modern BWYS quality. This is a seven volume commitment, and from what Maris has told me, it is chock-full of double pagers and heavy re-draw jobs. It doesn't just need someone who knows a bit of Photoshop, it needs someone who's experienced in scanlating in Photoshop. Someone who passes the editing test with flying colours http://flobberworm.com/downloads/BWYS-editing_test08.zip. Someone who can do the first two tasks seen here http://bwys.org/index.php?page=sitestuff/editordemo perfectly.

If you are such an editor, or you have one up your sleeve, I might consider talking with CLAMP no Lumiere about a joint for this... but I can't promise anything. My staff are not so much disinterested in Cluster as... apathetic.

Shade is only one volume... that might be more realistic to talk about...............
yes,we should do shade as the next project.

The only BWYS project I see listed there is X and Gakuen Alice. If that is the case, I am certainly going to think twice about my plan to re-scanlate all of X and Gakuen Alice.

But certainly if new chapters came out of Japan, I would do it unless I got C&D.

CLAMP stuff that IS listed there is
Cardcaptor Sakura
Chobits
CLAMP School Detectives
Clover
Duklyon: CLAMP School Defenders
X

Chun Hyang isn't there~
It seems that although Tokyopop does not have the publishing rights to X, they have the rights to protect X copyrights.

I must sound like a very immoral scanlator right now. Going to Otakon's 2008 Fansubber vs. Industry panel and hearing the American companies' opinions in person really helped loosen my attitude towards infringing licensed copyrights.
here the complete CLAMP manga on that list.
TP-015   Tokyopop   Angelic Layer
TP-039   Tokyopop   Cardcaptor Sakura
TP-043   Tokyopop   CLAMP School Detectives
TP-044   Tokyopop   Clover(Darkhorse)
TP-059   Tokyopop   Duklyon: CLAMP School Defenders
TP-117   Tokyopop   Kobato
TP-129   Tokyopop   Magic Knight Rayearth
TP-169   Tokyopop   RG Veda
TP-206   Tokyopop   Tokyo Babylon
TP-223   Tokyopop   X(viz)

I think CLAMP has control on who licenses their manga.

I think CLAMP does not treat their fans fairly but they have beautiful art what a bad thing.

Can you add CLUSTER by Tamayo Akiyama in your projects,i have volumes/raws of cluster by Tamayo Akiyama.

We have them too (unscanned), but there is no interest in editing it. I'd only consider adding it as a project if you were able to offer an experienced editor too. As you can see we've dropped Hyper Rune, while there's a lot of interest in doing the early CLAMP work there's none for Tamayo Akiyama in the staff...

Another possibility is, if you can convince CLAMP no Lumiere to pick it up, or convince them to joint with us with them doing the editing (including the double pagers), it could still happen... they may be nerdy enough to do Cluster ;)

We've also got Shade, another Ohkawa-Akiyama manga.
Tamayo Akiyama can't express her own plot in the manga better,i find her manga quite convulted in story.

So I bought this bunkobon. The Legend of Chun Hyang is one of the only CLAMP titles I haven't read, but when I got home and searched it up I realized it was licensed by TOKYOPOP. I don't think I've ever seen it on shelves, but it was licensed in 2004 and is still in print.

I don't want any more licensed projects but at the same time, it being done by TOKYOPOP is the #1 reason why I wouldn't buy and read Chun Hyang in English.

Is there any interest in scanlating it?
http://forums.mangatraders.com/guide/removed_series_by_name.txt

actually tokyopop had just asked mangatraders to stop hosting CLAMP works including x/1999.
