Title: Hana Yori Dango
Post by: Chara on July 16, 2008, 01:39:18 PM: I realize this will scandalize many a female- but I hated the Hana Yori Dango manga, and by extension, the drama. I find the original storyline borderline offensive as a female myself. I find /b/ less offensive. Yes I know the manga is 'the greatest shoujo of all time', and both the sales and its significance in shoujo culture supports that view.

The drama toned down a loooooot of things I found 'offensive' in the manga, so perhaps the heart of the problem is:

I do not find any of the men attractive.

GASP. So what do you think of Hana Yori Dango?

He's a white knight, an ideal boyfriend, yet he's the friend and not the boyfriend. For other girls I've asked so far, they didn't find him particularly attractive at first, but his character's persona grew on them and then they became Rui fangirls. So its interesting to see someone who is hot for Rui off the bat :)

And in the drama, it was Shun Oguri with a book- it'd be tough not to fall for him ^_^. Especially when all you want to do with the main protagonist of the series (Tsukasa) is either
a) laugh at him like he's your idiot little brother
b) choke him.

Rui wins, every time.
