Dr. B: The word “carnival” originated from “cannibalism.” / Have a good feast, everyone! Kazu: Rokumasu! Okakura! Daihama! Mahiro! Toki: Come on! Kazuki! Let’s charge! p.204 Notes #27-#33 Chapter 27 Survival *What would be the perfect bishounen? ----the conclusion I thought of was “someone whose ‘thing’ is beautiful as well.” That’s where the public bathhouse came in... and it was actually rather popular. I’m so happy! *How did Butterfly-mask hold up that little basin? *Even though Tokiko looked serious when she traded her milk with the Expresso coffee, you still see a softer side of her. This scene made me smile. *From the point Tai and Shii appear in front of Tokiko to the point Mutou decides to use Busou Renkin.. took up 3 pages. The story construction, performance, and drawing was almost completely done the way I planned! I’m so happy. Chapter 28 Beginnings of Maturity *I tried to draw horizontally to show each character’s place and expression, but readers didn’t like it. They said it was hard to read unless you turn the book sideways. *The lance is just too big! So hard to make moves with it. Ugh--- ugh---- ugh-------- *These few chapters get into battle scenes, and people didn’t like it at all. My editor seriously asked, “Maybe you could consider drawing manga about school love?” Well, “Busou Renkin” is “Busou Renkin.” I’ll stop running away and face the problem. Actually, I wonder how it’d be if I did move on to shoujo manga... Chapter 29 Getting Along *”That’s what happens when you don’t put your heart into a job.” This sentence more or less reflects my feelings when I was drawing this. I think young people should choose jobs that they like, and work hard. *The battle became one on one x2. I really did want to draw a 2x2 battle, but it’s just too hard. Considering the constraints, my energy, the popularity... In the end I gave up. Too bad... p.205 Notes #30-33 Chapter 30 Battle *I worked hard on the earthquake scene before the battle, but it might be hard to understand. That was the first obstacle Okakura’s come through in the whole story, so if no one reads it, I’ll be really flustered. This is troublesome... *Kazuki vs. Shuusui’s battle scene was actually briefed over. Because the plot was supposed to proceed quickly, I could only emphasize important spots (detail!) and cut off unnecessary parts. Chapter 31 Disciples *I thought Kazuki getting cut in half wouldn’t pass for sure, but I got an “OK” on the first try. Is it because the scene is whitewashed so it doesn’t look bloody? I still don’t get it. *Kazuki blocks the gyakudo. Shuusui blocking Kazuki’s lance with the kakugan is the basis of this scene. *The idea of disciples came from the vampire disciples in the movie “Blade.” Chapter 32 World of the Hayasaka siblings *The worst chapter in this volume. How do I put it... it’s too dark. *Drawing little Ouka and Shuusui was surprisingly easy. *Kurosaki-san was the main person behind this scene. There are some awkward spots if you think about it, but the overall shocking scenes wipe that out. Kurosaki-san really plotted the images well, but she’s (he?) actually a writer! How weird. *The idea wasn’t bad, but when I actually drew it out, seeing children suffer still made me sad. Even though I’m not much for kids. *This story isn’t fit to appear in a Shounen magazine. The “tragic history” that must be in fantasy stories are getting more popular in plays as well. I now understand why fantasy stories can outsell Shounen manga. Chapter 33 Don’t give up! *Kazuki vs. Tokiko! Tokiko likes to poke at eyes and Kazuki likes to... bleed? *Every time I flip through the story, I keep ending up altering slight things. It’s tiring, but I think it’ll improve my artwork. *Page 15, someone pointed out that it was a lot like the scene where Tomoe died in “Rurouni Kenshin.” It’s true! The scenes are almost identical. I didn’t notice at all when I drew it. I really feel like these two are Tomoe and Enishi revived! p.204 Notes #34-#36 Chapter 34 A Visit to the Hospital *A falling star from the moon! Bravo foot! HaHA! Drawing that was awesome! *I have to make it more popular! That’s what I thought, so I added as much humor as I could. The foolish Mahiro that even Kazuki laughs it... she’s matured somewhat as well, even though I barely noticed. *Angel-sama criticizes the Valkyrie Skirt. Actually I’ve been wanting someone to tell her that for a long time. Finally! Phew. Thanks, Angel-sama. *Will Ouka and Shuusui show up again? I’ll decide that later. Chapter 35 13 hours ‘til battle *Angel-sama excitedly criticizes Tokiko. Honestly, so far, he’s the only character that’s able to criticize her - what a treasure! He’ll criticize anyone, no matter who it is. Not a bad creation. *You won’t believe how much I agonized over one sentence - “Let’s go to the beach!” *Actually, there was another character that originally showed up in the disciple scene, but taken out due to unpopularity. Manga is still a business. We have to please the readers to make money. I’m sorry... I’ll try to improve from now on. Chapter 36 Carnival *Each warrior carries their “life” on their back. Kazuki’s pose was a masked superman, Bravo WAS superman, and Tokiko’s was from Sailor Moon. The first 2 were mostly the same. Only Tokiko’s pose was somewhat changed. But the humor pauses here. It’ll be serious for a bit. I’m not too sure about this, but it’s been decided, so on I go! *Yes, there goes Bravo. Now where should the fighting take place? A cave? A storage shed? In the end, I decided that the best stage was the school. I took a lot of time figuring out how to single out the school. Guess I didn’t understand my readers. It was actually popular! *People pointed out that I got the roots of “carnival” wrong. I’m sorry. I’m still not clear on that... I’ll look it up, and next time I’ll look something up BEFORE I print it. For now, just pretend Dr. Butterfly is telling the truth. To be continued (left) (right) *Hmm------- [[Foxy: HOMG Nobuhiro Watsuki you talk way to much. WAYYYYYY TOO MUCH. /kicks. and the roots of carnival is carnivorous, not cannibalism, FAIL FAIL FAIL. /cranky from Author’s notes]]
