If I have time, I might draw them again. *I wanted to work more on Kazuki’s inner battle with himelf, but unfortunately I just didn’t have enough space. (Magazines will try to give you more pages when the story reaches a climax, and less when it’s more “boring.” JUMP manga especially.) *L.X.E. was a play off “The League of Extraordinary Gentleman (L.X.G.).” I was going to make all the members famous Alchemists, but then I thought, “Only Alchemist-obsessors would know,” so I changed my mind. Chapter 19 Kazuki and Tokiko’s decision (part 1) *In the beginning I showed a clip of Tokiko in Ginsei High’s uniform as a little treat for the readers. Too bad it doesn’t match her personality! *I know readers might not appreciate the entrance of the Watsuki piggy, but that’s how it is. The humor just slips in during unexpected moments. *I like Kazuki’s blank look because if ideas don’t continuously pop into your head as you draw, a look like that is very hard to create. Now I truly respect comedy authors. *L.X.E.’s final boss made a slight appearance. I gave myself headaches trying to figure out how much I should reveal. In the end, I ingeniously had the L.X.E. and the Renkin Warriors give an intwined explanation. Still, I don’t know how much the reader really understands. Chapter 20 Kazuki and Tokiko’s decision (part 2) *Butterfly-mask reappears in a set of exquisite clothing! He’s fun to draw - I never run out of ideas. *Hero or villain, they’re all pretty cliched. I tried to make my story unique, and only until I finished the MacDonalds scene did I realize: “Eh? How’d it turn out like this?” *I think that Kazuki deciding to join the battle for justice is the true “heroic” part of this chapter. But drawing this convincingly is so difficult! Especially as it’s a matter of emotions. The entire theme of this series still troubles me a lot. *The Homunculi’s “real power” is that they can also use Busou Renkin - I decided this from the start. However, now that I look at it again, the idea seems a bit unclear. p.181 Chapter 21 Kazuki and Tokiko’s decision (part 3) *Kinshiro’s “heyho” seems popular. He’s certainly happy after recieving a kakugane. *A fist that grew big was planned from the beginning. But a question that arose was “Should I insert comedy into the battle?” there will be more on this later. *In the original draft, Captain Bravo shouts “BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO!” during his move, but I took it out because I decided it was too excessive (When I wrote this, someone said “DUH”) *This time there weren’t enough pages, so I couldn’t give Kazuki any good scenes. Next time I should split it into two chapters. Chapter 22 A night in the dorms *To make it more exciting, I combined memories with reality. The memories showed up twice, but just made it more confusing - FAILURE. *I designed Tokiko’s P.E. uniform on the spur of the moment, and it turned out pretty well. I’m satisfied. But everything won’t always work out so well - I should take a look at some teen fashion magazines. But.. buying something like that at my age feels pretty awkward. Chapter 23 Warrior Tokiko *The hallways (with students and other people in the background) were mostly drawn by helpers due to time constraints. It turns out imitating my style is difficult for them! These scenes are common in manga - I thought it’d be easy! *Even though Rokumasu and co.were hypnotized, completely revealing their real selves seems a bit cruel. After all, they symbolize the “normal people” in this series. *The bouncing Valkyrie’s Skirt scene was made after reviewing previous battles. It’s really popular - I’m so happy! *We see a bit of Tokiko’s past! *I considered normal Shounen manga qualities and attempted to add some danger into the story. The editor said, “It seems too forced; you should give it up.” ...what should I do? p.182 Chapter 24 All the enemies must... *Tokiko’s P.E. uniform is shredded into rags, and she shows up with lots of bare skin. Count it as a treat... naw, an experiment. Ever since I started to draw Butterfly-mask, I vaguely thought “If the body’s natural curves are shown, won’t it be easier to draw? When I first started, I wasn’t good at stuff like this, but now...” So I tried it, and it WAS really easy. Butterfly-mask’s scene was a piece of cake. *Ouka appears. I’m not used to drawing her, so she looks kind of weird. Chapter 25 The Hayasaka Siblings *”Just like it says in the Kamehameha song” or “Hamehameha song.” I had a big argument over this, and in the end I used Kamehameha. Later they proved that it was Hamehameha, but I won’t change it. To me, it’s the Kamehameha song. *The kendo scene was popular. This must be what they call “practice makes perfect.” (Foxfire: KENSHIN~~ WHEEE~~) *My middle-school kendo teacher taught me about Gyakudo. Come to think of it, he was a kendo master too. *Shuusui appears. I’m not used to him either, so he also looks a bit weird. *Football, clubs, classes... this time I focused more on school scenes. JUMP manga doesn’t have any restrictions regarding setting, so I decided to emphasize school to show some difference. Chapter 26 Training *L.X.E.’s password comes from Julie’s famous song, “Samurai.” Julie was the first person I (when I was little) thought of as cool. “Tokio”’s fancy attire and parachute-design stage really attracted me. Now I’m an adult, but when I look back on Julie, I still think she’s cool! *Even though my editor advised me not to continue with this type of stuff, I can’t help adding these fun little scenes. I can’t be satisfied with something too serious. I’d like to create something that’s meaningful, but also includes humor. *The “weirdos” once again visit MacDonalds.
